Help choosing a loquat (forum)

I used to eat loquats as a kid, and remember some being good and some being very bad. I'd like to have at least one loquat tree, but have no idea as to which are good varieties and which aren't. Looking for something that has a good balance between acidity and sweetness (little more tart than sweet) as opposed to something very sugary. It would help if it were a variety I could actually buy somewhere, too.

Champagne is good, but I have found it crops very irregularly. First crop was huge, then it just decided to fruit year round lightly. Mizuho is nice but more sweet and Nagasaki-wase is quite acceptable.

There's not much in it but if you prefer tart over sweet I'd go the Bessell Brown, the fruit is also larger.

Hard to say. Champagne is, for me, hands down the best I've had. So on taste alone, thats the one. Nagasaki crops best, but also has fungal issues. Mizuho crops lightest but has fruit almost four times the size of the otehrs, sometimes peach sized and is also very good.

lol this is tough. Ok, if they are picked before peak ripeness will they be a little more sour than sweet, or is this...not doable, for some reason? Daleys has bessel brown in stock right now.

I like them to go full term. The organza bags let me leave the fruit on the tree till they are perfectly ripe to the day. I only have a Nagasakiwasi and Bessell Brown, but do have a small piece of Champagne scion grafted onto the Naga which fruited two years ago. It was a very nice loquat, only had three to taste unfortunately.

Ok I'm going with Bessel Brown. If champagne becomes available or I come across it in my travels I might have a go at that one, too. Thanks for the replies everybody.
