Diana starts with ... Hi Ellen, I saw a question that you posted about lemon verbena in a my edibles page. You asked what it is used for, as the leaves are rough. I use this plant to make tea. I went to a cafe in Braidwood once when I used to live in Canberra, and had some lemon verbena tea. They served a plunger with a large spig of lemon verbena from their garden in boiling water, nothing else added. It was really delicious, so I got a plant, and then another one when I moved to Brisbane. I have been making the tea just in a cup since then. I sometimes take a sprig to work. It is good with mint leaves in it too. Also I have heard that you can put a sprig on fish or chicken when you bake it. The compact plant looks after itself and is drought hardy and pest resistant. Diana.

culebra says... Lemon verbena tea is very good. an all round great herb. The other day I saw a plant in a garden which looked extremely similar to lemon verbena, and I thought it was. when i rubbed a leaf it did not have a lemon scent at all, does anyone know what this one could have been? the scent was instead very different and nice but i couldn't describe it.. Maybe almond verbena? | About the Author culebra Melbourne 24th January 2010 2:27pm #UserID: 2458 Posts: 82 View All culebra's Edible Fruit Trees |
