If it is a brown velvety looking stuff under the leaves that causes the leaves to crinkle then it is most likely erinose mite. It is pretty common in Qld on lychee.

I get it often on my 3 trees and if they are flowering it also affects the flowers.

I have used rogor on it with some success.. it does not cure the affected leaves but does seem to kill the mite.

I have had success in controlling white fly with white oil. White oil suffocates the fly, and I an going to try using white oil on the erinose mite and see how that goes.

This year was a bad season for lychees I think.

A lot of lychees I have seen this season got effected by that rust which causes the leaves to go very brittle and when you squeeze it with your hands it falls apart.

I think it had something to do with a lot of the rain we had coming into spring.

That is interesting SlickMike that you say it is a mite I haven't seen any bugs under the leaves or anything.

Correy,

Are we talking about the same thing.. I suspect that we are. The leaf has a brown felty appearance under the leaf, crinkled.. starts off quite pale on new growth and gradually turns deep brown as the leaf hardens. At that time it is felty to touch. It is hardly noticable when the leaf is young but is really apparent as the leaf turns the deep green.

I have never had rust on my trees but all of them have had erinose mite. Google it and you might see what I am talking about. PM me if you are interested in seeing it as I think I have some somewhere that I could show you. I am at Camp Hill.

Hi there, I've got a similar problem with lychee tree at billinudgel. Brown velvet stuff covering the leaves and spreading to the fruit. Just sprayed with white oil so will see how it goes. I've included a few photos of the nasty beasts.
