mulberry pest

Judy Shennan starts with ...
I have a standard mulberry and have just noticed the branches are turning black and there is a scale like shell which is easily broken with a white looking mould under it. HELP!!!

I think you have scale and sooty mould. I had a similar problem. I sprayed the whole tree (especially the branches)with white oil. This was very effective. It killed all the nasties fast but they didn't drop off the tree for a long while.
