Outback lime source (forum)

I'm looking for a source of Australian "Outback Lime" trees (a
CSIRO Citrus glauca selection) or other Citrus glauca trees from a non QLD source. Apparently is was released to retail market in 2005, but I have yet to see a tree for sale.

I bought a desert lime (C. glauca) from Kuranga native nursery. Not sure if it is an improved cultivar or just the species. Phil.

Thanks Phil,
I've contacted them to see if they have any in stock.

Unfortunately they have had the same problem as me and have been unable to source them for a while.

I contacted Dr. Steve Sykes (who is responsible for the production of a lot of the native Australian citrus hybrids and selections), he mentioned that the next release of the Outback lime will be in approximately 2 years. Another breeder in Citrus glauca in QLD mentioned that it would be about 2 years before their trees would be in other sold states.
So until 2011 I would be happy to buy/exchange seeds/plants for citrus glauca from any other sources.

Adam can you describe the leaf of the particular Aus. lime you are looking for? We have some friends who have quite a few large leaved (or is that leafed?)native limes growing and I could probably get you some grafting/cutting material if you want. These limes were an experimental planting by CSIRO, the fingerlimes were a failure but the ones with big leaves have done well.Next question, if that is the lime you want is it legal to send it to you as i'm in S.A.

Hi Jantina,
The leaves on the Citrus glauca are long and thin, like willow leaves. As you can see from this site http://www.citrusvariety.ucr.edu/citrus/eremocitrus.html), the adult tree even looks willow like.
I'm actually interested in any unusual citrus, so if I could get material of you that would be great (it is fine to send citrus material between SA and VIC).

Hi Adam, unfortunately my server says it cannot access that site, but any case I am happy to see if I can get you some material (sure I can). The lime I saw did not have willowlike leaves, they were somewhat broader but not as broad as the everyday lemon.I could post the cuttings to you or bring them over when we come over in early January (to pick up car parts) whichever suited you best. Since you are interested in citrus you might know where I can get a Bergamot orange or seeds of one.

This should work now (I hope). I think that if the leaves are broad like a lemon, but are part of the CSIRO program they are likely to be the "Sunrise Lime", which I have have several of at the moment, so thank you very much anyway for your kind offer.
RE: Bergamot, I actually got mine from Daley's, but I see they are out of stock. The other source that has them is Engall's. They also stock other quite rare or hard to obtain citrus.

Thanks for that info Adam, the links worked this time. Our friends probably have paperwork as regards the CSIRO plantings (there are quandongs too)and they can most likely give me the botanical name, and if it's not Sunrise Lime I will let you know. They are working long hours at the moment so it might take me a few days to catch them.
