jensen starts with ... I 'harvest' a lot of palm fronds. It seems a shame to waste them. So, I cut them up, shred the 'leafy' part to be used as mulch, and bury the 'wide' parts in raised garden beds. However, I have absolutely no idea about chemistry, pH, etc. related to this. Do you have any information, comments, etc.? | About the Author jensen innisfal 8th February 2018 6:16am #UserID: 16572 Posts: 16 View All jensen's Edible Fruit Trees |
Fruitylicious1 says... Hi Jensen You have stumbled upon a centuries old technique in enriching the soil called 'Hugelkultur' it is nothing more than making raised garden bed with rotten wood in your case palm fronds. As the years pass, the deep soil of your raised garden bed becomes incredibly rich and loaded with soil life. If you want to learn more about this permaculture technique just google 'Hugelkultur'. As Always....Happy Gardening :-) | About the Author Fruitylicious1 TAMWORTH,2340,NSW 8th February 2018 9:11pm #UserID: 16885 Posts: 709 View All Fruitylicious1's Edible Fruit Trees |
