What would you have liked, barry? A discussion as to the sugar concentrations and average water content for each variety?

The warmer the climate , the sweeter the fruit , imho.. When I got to the sub-tropics , I could not believe how sweet the 'Golden Hawaiin' passion fruit was . I would cut up about 10 and eat them with a little yoghurt ... YUM
They are even sweeter uup here in the tropics , especially the Panama Red .
It makes the purple ones I remember from freezing Victoria taste sour by comparison.

Trikus - you are correct. The warmer the climate - they are sweeter, more flavorsome and aromatic. I found the black passion fruit in Victoria - very sour. The locals felt they are sweet but I guess they have never tasted a tropical passion fruit.

I think that you will find it is more a matter of personal preference, rather then an absolute that one style is better then the other.
In my case I will rather not buy a passionfruit then buy one of the Panama strains. To me they taste insipid and quite often floury. Even in the wet tropics.
