passionfruit

What do you think?
I have about 100 passionfruits on the vine and about another 100 flowers.
The vine is about 15 months old.

It is a black passion vine and a panama gold vine growing together.
As you can see in the second pic there is one black passionfruit growing among several gold fruits. :)

Shame it takes so long to get ripe, yum yum :)

Hi snottiegobble I was giving it some cow manure but before it started to flower I gave it a bit of dynamic lifter for fruit trees and it started to flower like mad.

Atm there's always a few bees hanging around every day.

The main thing is im always giving it plenty of water nearly every day.

Im very surprised because im new to growing fruit trees and plants but this has got me quite addicted. :)

Considering you are in Perth sands you have obviously made all the right moves & not let that damned " ducks back" scenario occur by continued watering. Before moving to this area I would never have believed that garden soil could be so water repellent!
You have a very healthy addiction nikybomb, join the club!

Yes snottiegobble my soil is very well drained, the water does not repell at all.

What fruit trees do you have?
Do you have any passionfruit?

Nikybomb, I have one black passionfruit that was a seedling last year & it has provided me with about 30 lovely fruit about 2 months ago.Next to it on the same trellis is a "Big Red" from Bunnings that has plenty of foliage but hasnt even bothered to flower! I have been assured it will perform next summer.
I also have a kaffir lime doing very well, & a young Tahitian lime that is still preferring to flower & fruit rather than grow leaves! ( Most people have the opposite problem) Moving from Victoria 3 years ago I am amazed that not only could I grow a papaya(pawpaw), but that I am enjoying its fruit at the moment! When the price of bananas went sky high a year ago I bought a young Cavendish from Bunnies. It is now a tall clump of 3 trees & because I water & feed them a lot I hope for some fruit next spring. I grew pomegranites from seed & sold them all except one to the local hardware store. Mine is doing really well planted out. Dont know if you have tried Cape gooseberries, but they are a very easy to grow & fruit, & the birds love them too so you will always have fresh seedlings popping up amongst your veggies!

Great! But why did your passionfruit have fruit two months ago when mine are still about a month of. Is it because of the different weather.

Hi nikybomb. Different PF vines fruit at different times and are also dependent on weather, soil, fertiliser, time and amount of pruning etc etc. Some vines will produce two crops per year or even more.

One of my Sunshine Specials fruited over Summer yet my other one which didn't now has about 20 or 30 fruit on it which I hope will ripen soon.

Nikybomb youre doing very well having all those fruit trees in suburbia, in I wonder if you have room for a house in there somewhere? :-)
Once I get a trench dug & the neighbours huge peppermint gum`s roots cut off along the fenceline I am hoping to plant white sapotes,& guavos ( named varieties). Until then its a waste of time down one side of the garden trying to grow anything!

This is one for the experts nikybomb! However I dont think that 'staining' will effect the fruit. What do you think Amanda?

I wonder if it was because of the cupla cold nights you guys had recently? No, I don't think it's a problem nikybomb - some of mine have that (although not that dark) and they fine.
