Possums and paulownia (forum)

Hi all, we are replacing a liquid amber that is constantly shredded by possums. Does anyone know if possums eat paulownia? Or have suggestions of fast growing deciduous trees that possums won’t eat? Thanks

Possums use my paulownia as a jumping off point to get to the roof, but I haven't noticed any damage. It is quite a large tree.
But beware of planting near the house - it has cost me a fortune in plumbing bills to remove roots from pipes!
They also climb into my flame tree - Erythrina indica (I think), and I've not noticed any damage. The parrots do an enormous amount of damage, so maybe I can't tell the difference, but it doesn't affect the tree.
They are an extremely fast-growing tree - you can cut off a fairly large branch in winter and stick it into the ground, like a giant cutting. I love the cheerful red flowers in winter!

Hi Clarissa
Try Manchurian pear and or oak tree. I'm not sure about paulownia if possum loves to nibble it.
Happy Gardening :-)

Possums don't seem to touch any of my Paulownias, whether in flower/fruit or not.
Your Paulownia flowers are red Julie? all mine are a mauve colour, can't recall the cultivar.

John, is there a red pawlonia? Never heard of it. Mine are the usual light purple colour. I was given a Sapphire seedling once which was supposed to be blue, but it didn't survive!

Thanks for your reply Julie. I think we will try a paulownia and hope that NSW possums feel the same way about it!
