Reed avocado

Could you please give me an estimate of the height a reed avocado would reach so I know where to plant it. If it is too tall is it possible to prune it to keep it managable?

I would also love to grow babaco. Any suggestions as to suppliers?
Thanks
Amanda

Hi Amanda, I'd say about 4 to 5 metres high maximum. Yes, you can prune them to a more managable height. Buy a grafted tree, as these seem to not grow as high as a seedling.

If you wanted a smaller one you could try the Dwarf Wurtz Avocado Tree

Brendan is right about pruning it makes a huge difference.

I have a babaco and love them however my friends think they taste gross so perhaps make sure you like the taste before you grow one.

I am growing one in pots and have had a few fruit off it now. After about 3-4 years it is still about my height.
