BJ says... Hi Terri, Taste is obviously totally subjective - but I find black and red mulberries MUCH tastier than the white varieties. The white has some sweetness without other flavours to balance and doesn't have any complexity. I've made jam from the white before and that creates a sweetish goop. To be honest I'd only grow white mulberry for feeding silk worms - but it is only my personal view! You've really got to find a plant and try for yourself. | About the Author BJ11 18th October 2011 11:49am #UserID: 3414 Posts: 215 View All BJ11's Edible Fruit Trees |

M Nash says... I think you are right BJ, I am picking a white Shahtoot now for the first time and they are honey sweet but lack the complexity of a standard red/black. However, If you can call "Honey Flavour" a complexity then they aren't all that bad. Very sweet, A bit like honey suckle flower nectar but no real mulberry flavour that I remember as a kid. | About the Author MNash1 Terranora Northern NSW 19th October 2011 12:58pm #UserID: 2892 Posts: 292 View All MNash1's Edible Fruit Trees |
