silvering on cinnamon apple (forum)

Hello. The Cinnamon Apple sapotes have all got silvering. Really badly, and I don't know what is causing it, even after studying the published information about the silvering of leaves on plants, there doesn't seem to be many details that are conclusive.

So I beg your advice as to the cause and more importantly how to cure it if at all possible as it seems like the plants may die shortly if not resolved. Thank you and have a Happy Easter.

It looks like thrips maybe ?? See if there are tiny yellow aphid like larvae under the leaves along the main vein. Look up thrips and see what they look like. Check the life cycle, they mature in the pot soil. For a couple of plants you can spray under the leaves a few times, maybe throwing out the top layer of pot mix might help.

Thanks for the suggestions. I couldn't see any thrips or larvae on the leaves but have sprayed them anyway. It's strange that only the 2 Cinnamon Apple plants are affected like this and all the other plants next to them have not shown any signs of this condition. Another possible cause of the silvering might be fungal but I think the most likely cause is thrips or some other insects that have eaten away the green flesh of the leaves.

Both of these plants are now flushing new growth so I will keep an eye on them. I hope that I will be able to bring them to fruition as Pouteria hypoglauca fruit are described as tasting like sponge cake. Would like to see that!

The thrips are seasonal, also they go down to the soil pot mix to moult, then come back up for the next cycle. The silvering and black spots on the older leaves look like thrips, but maybe not ??
I found wetting agent seemed to control them in pot mix, possibly drowned the larvae or acted like soap spray ??
What other causes did you think of ??
Possibly a fungus, maybe from the pot mix ie wood rotting fungus from bark. Did you recently repot ? Also what about frost or cold injury ? Did you recently move them ?
