Splitting graft on dwarf red shatoot (forum)

Hi, I purchased a dwarf red shahtoot mulberry about 2 years ago and planted into very well prepared soil. It has grown very well and fruited repeatedly throughout this time. In late autumn it continued to grow, but the graft union (about 30 cm off the ground) developed multiple vertical splits approx 10 cm long right around the trunk. The tree has not lost it's foliage this winter, and is developing new leaves and fruit now in July. Should I do anything to slow down its rampant growth (ie prune heavily?) to give it a chance to recover from this injury?

Post a photo? My mulberries get splits in their bark, doesn't seem to do them any harm.
