Thanks David. Way to tall for my spot and the quite high winds, I'd have tokeep it pruned to about 3/4 metres max.

Peter Carambola can actually reach 18+m in a tropical climate but rarely 5m south of briz.I keep a productive 8 year old tree 1m high only, through hard pruning.I saw in the dragon fruit thread that you (I presume it was you) were contributing quite a bit.Did you find out if there are sweeter hybrid types around?

hi mike
it is probably me (peter from adelaide) not peter from sa that you are refering to from the dragon fruit thread.
i havnt been looking around for sweeter varieties but would be interested if
you find out anything.
you have mentioned a larger yellow
type, are they available antwhere.
one of my varieties is a f1 hybrid,
i can send you some cuttings if youd like to try them.

Peter,I'm inclined to think those carambola varieties that survive in northern Florida like Arkin definately would do ok and kembangan may do alright as well. Here they pump out the fruit in flushes throughout the year but it may be a 2/3 month window in your parts. The lack of Summer humidity may be an issue.
I haven't located the big yellows which sound like hybrids but only been told of people seeing the fruit.Desert king is genetically more of a yellow in spite of the red skin and purple flesh but I doubt the NT farmer will share.Birdwood told me their supreme was found in a Briz backyard 15 years ago and is big, self fertile and sweet. The red fox pink is a mystery as to type and quality.I am too impatient to wait for seedlings to produce.

I think at Nolan Road Lambells Lagoon and there are around 3000? plants.
Yeah sure I'm in the market for those.I am a bit behind in sending stuff off as I still have to send Brendon pepper vines (I'm sure he is cursing me about my tardiness) as well as plants for a few others. What are you after Peter that might suit Adelaide? I have a pretty big selection of herbs, vegies and fruit trees.

Peter it is south of Darwin and if you google desert king it will come up after the Israeli information. You picked 2 I don't have.I do have about 50ish fruit tree species and quite a few varieties,20ish vegies,20ish herbs and about 10 vine species.I ditched about 15 subtropical and temperste species that were not thriving and a few species that weren't good enough.Anything else?

I assume no herbs also so that leaves fruiting and leafy vegetables.I have to admit I have more bulbs, tubers, rhizomes and corms but I should have a few.Do you have a postal or e-mail address to further it. The post office had people hangimg from the rafters today.
