The fruit you have there is Solanum mammosum, or cow's udder plant. Poisonous so don't try eating it. From South America, it is often used by interior designers and florists. In Japan it is known as "Fox Face".

It grows similar to an eggplant, except there was one in the Cairns botanic garden, about 10m tall and 40or50cm trunk at the base, a giant.

Thanks jakfruit. It sounds as if they grow to enormous dimensions in tropical climates.

Violet,, I have no idea what you've got there. But it does look more like a leaf in your hand than a fruit to me. .. I'd play it Safe, like Phil says if it were me!! (however,,, IF you are the daring type, there are 'some' poisonous plants which can be eaten, though it is Not advisable to try. With some plants, it only needs to touch the skin to kill, so play it safe. ... NB:: Not all of the Solanum species are poisonous. You eat tomatoes & potatoes don't you?
