Sugar Apple Leaf Tips

    4 responses

I live in Melbourne, and have been watching as my sugar apple trees (just bought this year) slowly lose their tips. Is it the season and cool weather? Pests (I don't see any). I have moved the trees all into a make-shift shelter and am hoping they at least push out the leaves before it gets really cold! The browning was happening before I moved them under cover, but it is continuing now that they have been moved. Any help is much appreciated.

That's what I thought at first, but in the first 2 pictures, you can see the little step where one of the larger new leaves has fallen off (compared to pic 3 where there are 3 new growth leaves). Pic 2 is prob the worst--they turn more brown and dry out after that. Nearly all of my sugar apple new growth is affected! Sometimes I see thin webs (like a spider, but single strand) on/near the new sprouts, and I recently found tiny (2 mm length) black inch-worm looking things on my lychee new growth (which was doing the same thing). I knocked them off in a hurry, but didn't take a photo. They are very tiny. Anybody know about those pests? I will add a photo if I come accross them again.

They normally lose their leaves every year, I wouldn't worry, actually the first new leaves usually lack of Fe so they might be a little bit yellow-ish

It's a strong plant give them time :)

Thanks, they have been hanging on (I stuck them in a greenhouse)--I even recently added a grow light. I hope they do well.
