Tiggerbow starts with ... Hi All, We have just purchased a 'blow up' swimming pool which holds 3000L of water. When we are finnished with the water we would like to put it on our vegie/fruit tree garden. Is this a good idea? We will need to put chemicals in the water,we haven't yet but we'll have to. My question is should we use salt or chlorine?. If we used either of these then we waited for a period of time, say a month, would the water then be ok to use? Diana says... Hi Tiggerbow, I think salt will never be OK, it will only get more concentrated with time. Chlorine at a concentration that's OK to swim in / drink is fine, the dissolved gas does leave the water over time (it would be OK straight away anyway I'm sure). A day ought to do it (as in when you fill an aquarium, if you aren't using water conditioner). Brad says... Hi Jodie, I'd be cautious with both types of pool water on fruit/vegies. As I understand it, both types of pool chlorinate the water - just different 'salts' are used. Chlorine is a bleach. I don't think plants like it and you risk burning them. Someone with more expertise may know whether the concentration is low enough that you don't need to worry or some dilution will make it safe. I would risk it on lawn, however. Especially if its the end of summer with rain later. I'd expect any damage to bounce back come spring. | About the Author Brad2 Como, Perth 10th December 2009 7:00pm #UserID: 2323 Posts: 762 View All Brad2's Edible Fruit Trees |
