Transplanting apples not yet domant

Hi all, I have a row of apples that need to be transplanted, but I'm losing patience with them not going into winter dormancy! The trees are two years old and have been trained as cordons, so shouldn't be a huge task to move. I had really hoped to get started on this task this weekend. Do you think it will be OK to move them or should I hang out until (if?!) they lose their leaves? Many thanks

I'd move them. They can sometimes hold on to their foliage and appear not to be dormant, but they're not doing any growing, and that's the time to move them.

Agreed. When they are young they hold their leaves through winter sometimes, but aren't growing.

In my opinion, August is the best month for transplanting trees, that's here in NSW at least, I don't know if other parts of the country would be any different. I have probably a dozen 3-4 yo trees that need to be moved.

Thanks for the advice. We finally transplanted them two weeks a go (about half still holding leaves) and they seem to have settled well. Fingers crossed.
