Can anyone advise on our issue please. We live in Hunter Valley NSW. We have had an enormous amount of rain this past week. On inspecting our fruit trees this morning we noticed sap at the base of our espaliered Mariposa/Flavour Supreme tree. Purchased last April and is in a large container and has not had anything wound it. No drip system to water it, it is done by hand.
Photos are of front and back of the base.

Its called gummosis, its caused by stress(drought sunburn)injury, insect borers, or infection. Usually its multi factored, a combination of the above ie a stressed tree gets an infection, and attracts insect pests. Im not sure of the best treatment, if you research gummosis in plums, you will find answers. Generally you should lessen the stress and treat. It could be related to the rain, ie waterlogging.
