Cain starts with ... Hi, We moved into our house 12 months ago and no one had been living here for about 3 months prior to that so the garden was a bit neglected. The lemon tree (not sure what variety) looked a bit tired, and had half a dozen fruit but they had very thick skin and very little juice. I pruned the tree back by about 1/4 and fertilized and it has grown back really well and looks really healthy, however, there is only one lemon on it (still green) and I haven't seen a flower on it in 6 months. The tree is currently about 3.5m at its tallest by about 3m wide. Our neighbors lemon tree is only 5m away from ours and his is covered in fruit so the light conditions are the same. Any ideas as to what could be going on with my tree? Also, is there any way to distinguish between the varieties? MaryT says... Patience, Cain. First, your tree has lost one quarter of its size so it has suffered a trauma that would take time to recover. Second, your fertiliser may have promoted leaf growth at the expense of fruiting. My advice is to water it well and mulch (away from the trunk) and see what happens.
