When to pick Pinkerton Avocado (forum)

gbell1 starts with ...
I have a 4 year old Dwarf Pinkerton Avocado that has produced many large fruit late last year (and are still on the tree. Problem is I am not sure when to pick them. I have picked a couple, but they don’t seem to ripen. Any advice would be appreciated!

I assumed "late last year" as in 2019, which would meant that your fruit is over 12 months old. It certainly is old enough to be pick from your tree. Bare in mind that the avocado fruit does not ripen until it is picked from the tree, over a week or so. To 'speed" up the ripening., placed the picked avocado next to some bananas, apparently this works wonders.

Thanks Avo L 134, I did mean late in 2020. The avocados are full size, and there are heaps on the tree. When I picked some the previous year they didn’t ripen even after 4-5 weeks of sitting with bananas and other fruit. Hence my question.
Is there a minimum time the fruit should remain on the tree, or should I pick them as soon as they reach a reasonable size? Or, can I just pick the, whenever they are needed and leave the rest on the tree so they wont ripen too soon?

Oh that is way too early to be picking your avocado. They need almost a year before they are "mature" enough to be pick from the tree. The longer they are left on the tree, the more oily content, i.e better tasting they will be.
You can pick as many as you need each time. They will eventually drop if you don't pick them. What I could do is leave 1 or 2 from this crop and let drop naturally, this way you know exactly when they are ready for picking on subsequent crops.
