Hi there,
Do you reckon that I should plant my seedling now or is there a specific time of year to plant them in the ground?
The loquat seems to be growing pretty well in the pot at the moment so I wasn't sure....
Any advice would be great!!

Cheers

You can plant it at any time that suits you. Just follow the usual regime for planting a tree.

If you leave it in the pot for an extended period, ensure it doesn't get root-bound.

Keep an eye on the weather, it can get very hot in Cairns in December. Have you thought of planting it when the rain kicks in ?

The wet season is supposed to start soon so I was a bit worried that if we get a cyclone it might just destroy it so I thought I'd plat it and see how it goes :) It sags and droops during the day but once the shade comes over it around 2:00pm it springs back nicely. Fingers crossed it will survive :)

Hi blackthumb

If you are worried about strong wind during cyclone just erect a sturdy shade cloth around the exposed area of your young tree. The shade cloth will also help during overly hot weather. If you have planted it on a higher ground flooding won't kill it otherwise it might drown during high water. Happy gardening 😎
