A rare and endangered species of Davidsons Plum that is native to a restricted area of in the Brunswick Tweed region. Edible bright red fruit used to make preserves. Trees are cutting grown or grafted as the fruit rarely contain seeds.

Much more compact in growth habit than the King White Shahtoot. These delicious sweet fruits can reach 10cm in length. Ideal for back yards and we consider it a must have fruit tree for the back yard. The best way to eat mulberries is fresh from the tree. If some should make it to the kitchen bench they make excellent pies, jams, wines and sauces. Multiple crops are possible by pruning directly after your first crop. Suitable for most regions of Australia, although it can be susceptible to damage from late frosts. The red shahtoot is ideal for growing in pots and containers due to it small growing habit and it is ideal for school gardens as it does not produce fruits that stain and the sweet fruits are very appealing to children. This variety is best suited to warm subtropical climates and does not perform well in temperate climate where it tends to drop their fruit.

Outstanding small tree for warm position or indoors. Large pinnate leaves make it a striking specimen plant. The edible purple fruits have bright red flesh and make excellent jam. Prefers some shade. The Lemon Myrtle occurs naturally throughout coastal Qld rainforests. It is a spectacular ornamental tree due to both its appearance and the superb fragrance of its flowers and leaves. The leaves and flowers are used in sweet and savoury dishes or as a refreshing tea. However as boiling or baking often reduces the flavour. The leaves are best added to the recipe at the end of the cooking process and either left to steam with the lid on or made into a sauce or dressing. It is usually the older and fully hardened-off leaves that are harvested for use. Enthusiasts describe the distilled oil from this tree as 'more lemony than lemon' and its used extensively to scent confectionery, perfumes, aromatherapy oil and food flavourings.

Davidsons Plum - Smooth

D. johnsonni - Unfortunately, it's probably just the gardener, but I have had little luck trying to grow these. I have a couple from many years ago that are still only 30cm high and one is just starting to flower! The last couple I got died despite following directions to the letter for their propagation. D. jerseyana seem to grow as easily as weeds in the same area, so it remains a mystery to me. I really want to get these endangered species established to compliment the other two species.
