In tropical climates it can be grown as a marginal plant in dams and ponds, used as a bedding plant in tropical landscaping. The fruit are tangy and refreshing with a delicate subtle sweetness, a fine balance between sweetness and acidity, producing an unusual taste sensation. Very moreish. Fruit should be picked mature, as it does not ripen further on storage. Originating from the Bolivian part of the Amazon basin in South America, the Bolivian name of the fruit is Achachairu and translated means honey kiss. Achacha is protected by Plant Breeders Right (PBR) and cannot be grown or propagated without licence agreement with Achacha Fruit Group

Palm - Dwarf Acai

Late variety with large elongated fruit with dwarfing characteristics. Trees fruit at under 5m. Acai (pronounced Assa-ee) have brightly coloured skin of purple and red. The flesh is smooth and almost fibreless. Very sweet and good quality, high in calcium and iron. Produces well and is fairly consistent. High in anthocyanin compounds and reputed to be a highly nutritious fruit. Best for tropical areas.

Loquat - Nagasakiwase

The best Japanese variety so far, it has deep orange flesh, high flesh/seed ratio and very sweet flavour. Earliest variety to ripen. Thinning fruit will enhance fruit size. The Nagasakiwase often has 2 crops a year in the subtropics. The first crop in April / May then again in August. We have found by cincturing in summer, the August crop has a much larger crop and better fruit size.

Thai-type mango with green-yellow skin, sweet, tender and juicy with an excellent flavour. Regular cropper in cooler climates.It is elongated and tapers to a long point. They contain little acid and are fibreless. Susceptible to Anthracnose, resistant to Black Spot. Size 375gms. It is esteemed by Asian cultures as a pickled fruit, or as one eaten green or ripe.

Papaya - Broad Leaf

Papaya had a "fight" with a grasshopper first night in the ground, being left with only a little leaf. We created a mini greenhouse around it using wooden sticks and a plastic bag secured to the ground. It is now recovering with new leaves coming through.
