The Jala Avocado produces supersized Australian avocados. They can grow up to four times the size of the usual sized avocados you find in the shops. This is a new release from Fleming's Nurseries Qld, and will be available to the backyard gardener. At this stage, they consider it to be a B type with a good level of self-pollination. Fuyu is a semi-dwarf variety, well suited to growing in small backyards and can be kept to 2m with pruning. The fruit is large and flat, orange-red in colour with a sweet, mild flavour. Great eaten crunchy but just luscious when left to go soft. Besides producing delicious fruit, Persimmons are highly ornamental with their beautiful autumn foliage. Non astringent, so can be eaten when still hard. When young, protect from hot afternoon sun, and when dormant, from wet conditions. Seedless when grown on their own. If cross pollinating with another variety they can have seeds in the flesh as shown in the display picture.

A Californian variety, selected for its cold tolerance. It originates from an Indian strain of mango and is thought to be a seedling selection of the Mulgoba mango. Keitt mangos turn from orange-green to bright green when ripe. Fruit are fibreless and have a lovely smooth texture, the flesh is golden orange with a delicate flavour with a hint of lemon undertones and a smooth sweetness. Late season
