Avocado - Giant Jala PBR

$99.00 ($84.00-$99.00 choose a size)

The Jala Avocado produces supersized Australian avocados. They can grow up to four times the size of the usual sized avocados you find in the shops. This is a new release from Fleming's Nurseries Qld, and will be available to the backyard gardener. At this stage, they consider it to be a B type with a good level of self-pollination. More information on this will be available next flowering season 2025. Featured on ABC News websites along with the TV program Landline. The variety is PBR, meaning unauthorised propagation is not allowed.

Dwarf Persimmon - Fuyu (NA)

$99.00 ($79.00-$99.00 choose a size)

Fuyu is a semi-dwarf variety, well suited to growing in small backyards and can be kept to 2m with pruning. The fruit is large and flat, orange-red in colour with a sweet, mild flavour. Great eaten crunchy but just luscious when left to go soft. Besides producing delicious fruit, Persimmons are highly ornamental with their beautiful autumn foliage. Non astringent, so can be eaten when still hard. When young, protect from hot afternoon sun, and when dormant, from wet conditions. Seedless when grown on their own. If cross pollinating with another variety they can have seeds in the flesh as shown in the display picture.

Cupuassu

$39.00 ($39.00-$49.00 choose a size)

Related to cacao, the cupuassu is popular in its native Brazil, but little known elsewhere. Unlike cacao, the pulp of the large-fruited cupuassu is used rather than the seeds. Pulp is processed into beverages and desserts. A form of chocolate and cocoa butter can be made from the seeds. Fruit is highly sought after and production is thus far limited to Brazil where demand greatly exceeds supply. Leaves are large and much like the cacao tree. Fruits are borne on the trunk and apexes of main branches. Strictly tropical Cupuassu prefers a very humid environment with little temperature variation throughout the year, and mean temperatures around 24C. Trees need lots of water for good growth.
