This mulberry has a very low chill factor making it ideal for our subtropical climate. Pruning after fruiting allows it to be kept under 3mtrs, and also encourages multiply cropping throughout the summer. It is best to pick the fruit when ripe, as it doesn't ripen further off the tree. A benefit of a mulberry tree is that the fruit ripens over an extended period of time unlike other fruit that often ripens all at once. The fruits of the black mulberry, considered the tastiest and most versatile of the mulberries are large and juicy with a good balance of sweetness and tartness. The fruit of the dwarf black mulberry is the same as that on the large black mulberry that we all know and love. The fruit is large, resembling a blackberry, sweet and luscious. Most popular variety due to both its superior taste and excellent keeping qualities. Medium sized, pear-shaped fruit has an excellent creamy, flesh. The leathery rough dark-purple skin turns to black when ripe. H Aug-Dec. Hass is an A type variety and for good fruit set a B type variety is needed for cross pollination. Suggested varieties to grow alongside a Hass are Shepard, Sharwill, Fuerte, Bacon (if you're in a cooler climate)and Linda. Happy fresh avocado smashing.

The flesh is a buttery yellow creamy flesh with a delicious flavour. The skin is dark with bright green bumps and is rough textured. It grows best in coastal areas, in inland regions the skin turns russet brown.

A compact upright tree. It is self fertile and produces good crops of creamy fleshed, pebbly skinned fruit. Perfect for smaller backyards. It has some frost tolerance for short periods of time however frost free is best to ensure trees are not damaged by the cold. It is best to cross pollinate with another variety such as Bacon, Fuerte or shepard. Having your own supply of avocadoes is a great for keeping your meals healthy and saving you dollars on groceries. They require free draining soil and full to part sun. Beautiful trees especially when they are loaded with fruits. You can leave avocadoes hanging on the tree for long periods of time and they will ripen once picked. Store unripe avocadoes in your fridge and pull a couple out when you need them to ripen on the bench. They are one of the best fruit trees you can plant.
