Medium sized round fruit with dark red skin and yellow to pink flesh. It has a sweet taste with slight bitterness near the stone - clingstone. Grows to a height of 2m and a width of 2m. Matures early to mid January. Partially self fertile, pollinates with Mariposa or satsuma. Used for fresh fruit, stewing preserves and jams. Vigorous upright growth habit. This is a very popular variety for home gardens and has good keeping qualities. Plant in a sunny position with well drained and well worked soil. Take care to plant the bud union above the soil level. Water in well and keep soil moist until tree is established. Fertilise when planting and again after new growth appears. Minnie Royal is a medium to large size red cherry with a firm texture and superior flavour. Fruit begins to ripen in early November and holds well on the tree into December. The tree is very productive and sets heavy crops in southern California. We estimate the chill requirement at 200 to 300 hours, but some have produced with less than 100 hours. Non astringent, so can be eaten when still hard. When young, protect from hot afternoon sun, and when dormant, from wet conditions. Seedless when grown on their own. If cross pollinating with another variety they can have seeds in the flesh as shown in the display picture.
