Excellent backyard variety. Medium-sized, compact, rounded tree that usually matures fruit from mid- Dec. through Jan. Considered good bearing compared with most other cultivars, especially consistent in areas with warm winters. Its fruits are large, deep red, and 33-40 to a kilogram, with seeds that are not large in relation to the amount of flesh.

Belonging to the bean family the nam nam is a small multi-stemmed tree. The texture of the fruit surface is rough and wrinkled, pale greenish/yellow and dull looking. The flesh is juicy and yellow in colour. It tastes sourish and has large seeds. The mature fruit can be eaten fresh or cooked with sugar to make sweets (compote). It can also be made into a fruit salad, pickled, or be used to prepare a special 'sambal.' The tree makes an attractive ornamental plant in home gardens and is also potted and grown as bonsai plant.Suited to tropical areas only

Late variety with large elongated fruit with dwarfing characteristics. Trees fruit at under 5m. Acai (pronounced Assa-ee) have brightly coloured skin of purple and red. The flesh is smooth and almost fibreless. Very sweet and good quality, high in calcium and iron. Produces well and is fairly consistent. High in anthocyanin compounds and reputed to be a highly nutritious fruit. Best for tropical areas.
