Trees grow to only 2.5m. Plants are thorny to prevent herbivores from browsing but top-most branches out of their reach are thornless and these quality grafted plants are produced from these thornless upper branches. The Nagasakiwase often has 2 crops a year in the subtropics. The first crop in April / May then again in August. We have found by cincturing in summer, the August crop has a much larger crop and better fruit size.
