The common name of Parrot Tree derives from the large numbers of parrots attracted to the tree during its flowering season. Flowers appear in spring, are numerous, deep red, and filled with nectar, although exact flowering times vary from tree to tree. The name, Drunken Parrot Tree derives from the fact that the individual flowers contain so much nectar that it has a tendency to ferment before the birds can eat it all, resulting in a mild narcotic effect on the birds. A medium to large, spreading tree, growing up to 20 metres, but more commonly from 5 to 10 metres depending on conditions.

Cinnamon - Cassia

$29.00 ($29.00-$49.00 choose a size)

Grown for thousands of years in China for both culinary and medicinal purposes and the source of the preferred cinnamon spice in North America, the flavour is stronger and is suitable for both sweet and savoury dishes. Trees are coppiced every 2-3 years and the inner bark is harvested and rolled into quills. The flower buds are also used as a sweet flavouring. Cassia cinnamon is distinguished from true Cinnamon by the thickness of the harvested quills and by the scent of the leaves. These are high in cinnamaldehyde, the source of the cinnamon scent, whereas true Cinnamon leaves smell like cloves. An attractive tree. Weed Warning: Can be invasive in tropical areas

Golden Shower

I first saw this plant on a cattle station in the Kimberley. It had the most eye catching blooms and in great abundance. Love at first sight. Took me a while to track down. Thanks Daley's for stocking it. I've planted it in a raised bed with good draining soil. Doesn't like wet feet. Leaves are tender at the moment so will not tolerate frost while young. Use a frost net while becoming established.
