Fuyu is a semi-dwarf variety, well suited to growing in small backyards and can be kept to 2m with pruning. The fruit is large and flat, orange-red in colour with a sweet, mild flavour. Great eaten crunchy but just luscious when left to go soft. Besides producing delicious fruit, Persimmons are highly ornamental with their beautiful autumn foliage. Non astringent, so can be eaten when still hard. When young, protect from hot afternoon sun, and when dormant, from wet conditions. Seedless when grown on their own. If cross pollinating with another variety they can have seeds in the flesh as shown in the display picture.

Jakfruit Seedlings - We have these Plants on a Super Special at present for the next month. We were unsuccessful using this batch as rootstock so we are now overstocked and need to sell them ASAP, as they have grown a strong new leader. A very handsome evergreen, reaching a height of 8 - 15 meters and bearing the worlds largest fruit. Fruits can weigh up to 20kg. Strong scent to the fruit but it is deliciously sweet, with tropical fruit flavours of banana and mango. It can be eaten fresh or dried. Very quick growing and usually starts fruiting in 4th year. A perfect start to a Food Forest in subtropical and even protected warm temperate regions, especially in spring and summer. Cincturing can help earlier fruiting. There is an old Sri Lankan proverb that says, with jakfruit and coconut in your backyard you will never starve. This is because every part of the jakfruit tree is useful. Unripe jakfruit can be cooked with chicken, fish and eggs, and ripe ones can be eaten as is or processed into drinks, jam, jelly or candy. The same applies to other parts of the tree such as the skin, leaves, flowers, wood and latex which have their own uses and benefits.
