I have a Moorpark apricot my daughter bought for me last year. Should it be growing leaves and flowers yet as it's supposed to fruit come January to December ? It had leaf growth when bought.

It probably is still dormant because it hasn't received enough winter chill, which all stone fruit need. I don't think a Moorpark will ever fruit in Avoca Beach as it is too warm. You might have luck with a low-chill apricot seedling http://www.daleysfruit.com.au/Apricot-Low-Chill.htm or by growing pitomba (which some people compare to an apricot flavour).

My apricot is one of the last deciduous trees to break dormancy. It still doesn't look like it, although other stone fruits have already set fruit.
Especially if it was a present, I wouldn't give up on it setting fruit. You should see the first flowers and fruit 2-4 years after planting. If after this period you have not seen any flowers then consider the alternatives. Newcastle early is often cited as a good low chill apricot, though it is hard to find nowadays.
Good luck. Fresh, ripe apricots off the tree are the best. Watch out for fruit fly and possums who both love apricots.

Hi Crochet. Just letting you know that I noticed my apricot had broken dormancy three days ago. Hopefully, yours will soon, if it hasn't already.
