Farouk says... Does this bay leaf really grow into a huge tree like I just seen in Google Images? Is it different from the common bay leaf sold dry in Woolworths spice section? jakfruit etiquette says... Daun salam, is a Syzygium, related to Australian Lilly Pilly species and the clove tree, which is also a Syzygium. It can grow big, 25m in the wild. The dried leaves are available in some Asian grocery stores. The other Bay leaf you mention is a Laurel,Laurus nobilis related to Avocado. Some Mexican Avocado types have anise scented leaves, used in cooking.
