They grow up to 30 feet.
It would have to be a pretty damn big pot.

someone who's interested in this dwarf coconut tells me that, it's called dwarf because it's slower growing (in height) per year, but evenutally and given many many years, it will grow very tall like the other species of coconuts.

it wont get quite as tall as talls. It is slower growing and broader accross the trunk and is generally more ornamental, but over time they still get 15m tall, but wont get 30m tall. In the sub tropics I think they would stay smallish.

thanks for the correction BJ, I will take your words and challenge him! My friend is actually Malaysian and you'd think he should know about his native homeland's plants. LOL. I think he was comparing the dwarf gold/green ones against other types found commonly on SE Asian beaches.

The guy I spoke to yesterday (bit of a celebrity, moniker is "coconut rodney" and has been on burkes backyard/ Poh's kitchen and others) says that he has had reports that they have grown to producing coconuts in brisbane in as little as 3 years. He says they can grow to 30FT. Coconut rodney has been growing malays and other nuts for over 30 years, and undoubtedly has more knowledge on the subject of coconuts than anybody else in Australia.

This article mentions a few dwarfs in Australia.I remember the malay gold dwarfs at Kamerunga in the 1990's and some were about 35 feet but they get quite a bit taller than that. The row of malay gold near Fishery Falls are tall but gracile. I am very surprised they have been producing coconuts in Briz in 3 years.

Mike,
I'm really considering ordering one. Rodney told me yesterday that he has some growing well even in clay soil--very surprising, but also that there is nothing dwarf at all about the Malay greens being sold in Brisbane.
The tree I'm looking at is about 1m tall.

starling they seem to do better in clay than the standards and are a little more tropical. They might not reach their full potential height is Briz and might not really thrive. Because they fruit early and are gracile the malays are called dwarfs but they just keep growing taller.
