Rowan says... I might get a blast here but here goes: Composting all manure is an old wives tale that people just believe without trying for themselves. The only manure that has to be composted before you use is fowl manure. I have always used fresh horse, sheep and cow manure but with wet manures like cow and horse you have to let them dry out for a week or so in the paddock before you use, it is the wetness that can rot your plants. Although digging the manure into your soil is best, I have often planted vegetables and other plants directly into piles of manure and had great results even for root vegetables. Don't be afraid to go against convention, it might surprise you. Goat manure is fine to use fresh. | About the Author Rowan Casterton Vic 30th September 2011 6:04am #UserID: 4558 Posts: 97 View All Rowan's Edible Fruit Trees |
