goat poo (forum)

frankie starts with ...
I can get my hands err shovel on large amounts of goat poo, I have never used it before, do you mix it straight into the soil?, Can too much burn the plant

Any manure should be composted before use. If used straight it will indeed burn the roots. You could just dig it in if you weren't planning on planting for quite a while, but I would say composting would be better. You can add as many things as you like, and end up with a nice mix.

Composting all manure is an old wives tale that people just believe without trying for themselves. The only manure that has to be composted before you use is fowl manure.
I have always used fresh horse, sheep and cow manure but with wet manures like cow and horse you have to let them dry out for a week or so in the paddock before you use, it is the wetness that can rot your plants.

Although digging the manure into your soil is best, I have often planted vegetables and other plants directly into piles of manure and had great results even for root vegetables.

Don't be afraid to go against convention, it might surprise you. Goat manure is fine to use fresh.

My Father In Law always uses uncomposted sheep poo in his garden. He never has any problem using it. Gets it straight from the farm.

Frankie - Can you get your hands on the goats too. I love Capretto. Marinated in olive oil, garlic, rosemary then roasted in the oven - mmmmmm. Yummy! My favourite meat!
