How far apart to plant avacados? (forum)

6 responses

Barcode starts with ...
I'm close to Melbourne and have purchased an A and B avacado (Reed & Bacon). Do they need to be planted close to each other or can I spread them out. The spots I have chosen are probably about 20 to 25 metres apart.

Thanks Jantina. Can they be further apart than 25 metres and still help each other?

Meo, because you have seedlings which grow much bigger than grafted avos, I'd plant them ~ 18 to 20 feet apart (5.5 to 6 metres). You can plant trees closer and keep them pruned to a smaller tree, if you don't have room. My grafted trees are planted close at 13' (4m) x 20' (6m) apart. Avocado trees can 'help' each other even being 500 metres (~ 1640 feet) to 1000 metres (3280 feet) away. Hope that helps.
