Is this a Fig? (forum)

Hi, we were clearing out some room for a cubby house for the kids and found this plant in amongst some others and underneath another really big tree. A few people have said that it looks like it could be a Fig.
It is currently about 2m tall, but looks quite leggy - not a lot of foilage, but it is growing in a very shady position.
Thanks,
Cain

It looks like a fig to me? It doesn't look quite right/healthy, to me, tho? Maybe it's the shade etc.

figs should have fairly rough(sandpapery)leaves and white latex if the bark is cut. Yours looks a bit unusual..1/2 fig and 1/2 grape?
Seedlings can look unusual, esp when young.

In addition you can check the smell of a crushed leaf. Especially during hot weather, fig leaves have a typical fragrance.

I think it is a fig as I found a fig tree in a neighbors yard behind me about 15m away.
Not sure if I should transplant it to a sunnier spot?

Personally - I would take a cutting and grow it up first Cain? Then post a pic back here when it's off and running. I could be wrong but I suspect it has a viral infection.
Regardless - the stems are spindly and not a good foundation for a fruit tree..U may as well buy a strong and healthy plant and start again.
It could, however, be something 'different' maybe...there are a lot of very old fig trees in Perth. What suburb are u in?
i would keep the cutting in the place u intend to grow this fig tree..it may not do well there...and at least it hasn't cost u anything?
I never plant sick or doubtful fruit trees in the ground - that I want to grow up to be healthy and strong. It can be a waste of time and water over a a fair few years.

Hi Amanda, I am in Nedlands so plenty of old trees around here.
I might just buy a new one and plant that instead.
