Mango tree with two trunks (forum)

HI All, I just wanted to seek some advice on a mango tree we have. We inherited this tree when we brought the property about two years back. Unusually it seems to have two trunks coming out from the base of the tree. However one does seem to be more dominant and has most of the foliage.

I cut the second one back last year and this has given me a few new branches coming off the second trunk, my thinking here was to try and get more tips for more mangoes to grow off!

This is the first year i've noticed the the tree fruit. However i was wondering whether it is possible that the second trunk might not be good for the tree in that it might be competing for nutrients from the rest of the main part of the tree hence directing nutrients away form the fruit currently on branches off the main trunk.

I'd appreciate people's thoughts as to whetehr it is a good idea to cut this second trunk off or whether i'm over-reacting and should just leave it.

thanks,
Ben.

Whenever I've had a weird shaped tree I just leave it, they usually sort themselves out and if it's a big tree already it's surely perfectly balanced just how it is otherwise it would have fallen over :)
