Frederick St starts with ... Hi all, Today, after falling in love with figs, I bought a fig plant from bunnings in Ashfield, Sydney. The label only said "Genoa" and now I find that there are Black and White Genoa varieties. Has anyone bought one of these before and knows which one they are more likely to stock? Or which of the two is more common in the Sydney area? The leaves are heavily lobed and do not have the distinctive "fig tree" smell. Any hints on how to tell which one I have would be appreciated. Jason says... I have a White Genoa and the leaves are fairly distinctive (more defined/lobed), not like the average Fig. I'm not sure how common Black Genoa is in Australia but I think it's a fair chance you have the White. I've only had mine a few months but it's already the fastest growing Fig I've ever had, I'm not sure why it's growing so fast but I wont complain | About the Author Jason Portland 21st January 2011 5:59pm #UserID: 637 Posts: 1217 View All Jason's Edible Fruit Trees |

MaryT says... I have a Black Genoa and a White Adriatic; the black Genoa has taken off but the White Adriatic is just sitting there at the moment, as if deciding whether it likes it here (6 km from CBD Sydney). Since I started shopping for figs, I have not seen a White Genoa being offered, but the Black seems fairly common. | About the Author MaryT Sydney 22nd January 2011 1:13pm #UserID: 5412 Posts: 2066 View All MaryT's Edible Fruit Trees |
