Michelle starts with ... I once read of a tropical fruit that when consumed regular a persons body odour gains the natural fragrance of lavender ( or similar) and that such a fruit was being trialed for growing queensland. As for the name of the said fruit that is where I am in need of help. Does anyone know what I am referring to? And what its name is? Speedy says... Hi Michelle, I think you may be asking about the Kepel tree / Kepel fruit ... Stelechocarpus burahol (Anonnaceae) I've never seen the tree, let alone tasted the fruit, but am intrigued by the stories of the perfume thing. I first saw a scant reference to it in a book many years ago. It mentioned that the aroma was more like violets, well floral at least. | About the Author Speedy Nth. trikus says... There is a very large tree planted somewhere in Flecker Botanic Gardens in Cairns . You can download a map for a self guided tour of the edible plantings there . There was a fantastic article in last years Rare Fruit Review about this tree with a fantastic picture of one with a glorious flush of red new foliage . I have recently planted one that was purchased from Limberlost Nursery . I do not think it would grow well out of the wet tropics as it is native to Indonesia .It has fruited in 7 years planted in a collection in Florida. | About the Author Trikus Tully 9th April 2010 11:56am #UserID: 930 Posts: 749 View All Trikus's Edible Fruit Trees |
