Passionfruit Panama sweet gold (forum)

Db starts with ...
I bought cutting grown Panama sweet gold from Daleys 3 months back. It was 1 ft single stem plant, now within 3 months it has covered 4 X 1 meter fence area and now it's fruiting. It has now set roughly 40 fruits and there are more than 100 flowers yet to open. It seems to be completely self-pollination, I don't think bees has done pollination as each every flower that opened has set fruit till now - not a single flower drop without pollination. Plant is extremely easy to grow from cuttings. 2 month back I cut top 1 ft of main branch - so that tree develops side branches - instead of throwing that top cut portion, I put it in one pot with not so good potting mix, now it is grown 6 ft tall :)

So i'm extremely happy with this cutting grown panama gold variety. In fact I'm very happy with all of my fruit trees from Daleys so far, almost every tree is already fruited or fruiting now.

Some plants can be wind pollinated, like olives, tomatoes so I suppose it is possible that passionfruit can do the same......interesting!

All fruits on my Panama sweet gold vine that I mentioned above are now 3 inch long, growing very fast... How big Panama sweet gold fruit grows? I haven't yet noticed any sting of fruit fly on any fruit, can fruit fly attack them at this stage considering they are already 3inch now?

Out of more than 100 fruits on my Panama Sweet Gold vine only 1 has ripened so far (very sour, not sweet at all as per description). All rest has stayed green and same size (3-4inch) in last 2.5 months. Will they ever ripen?

They will ripen but in winter is happens much more slowly. A bit of heat makes them sweeter and winter ripened fruit are never as sweet. A bit of Mg, S, K and P will also get the flavour odds in your favour.

Update - Roughly 50 large fruits got ripened in last one month or so.. They were sweet and very tasty.. Remaining 30 or so fruits are all yellow and ready to pick now... 80 fruits in first season is highly productive vine in my opinion, I planted it in ground only 9 months back and it was only 1 ft tall that time..

I highly highly recommend this variety to anyone.. It is also very easy to grow from cuttings..

I picked those remaining fruits couple of weeks back.. Vine has already put on lot on new growth (which started even before it finished fruiting). Is it too late to give it hard-prune now or still ok?
