Pomegranat - Ben Hur

    5 responses

Db starts with ...
I was looking for Ben Hur variety for a while, Daleys have it in production at the moment. Yeasterday I bought this plant from local market here just for $9 (very cheap), to accompany my Wonderful and Rosavaya varieties. Anyway, has anyone tasted this pomegranate, how is it? Is fruit really that large as mentioned by Daleys?

Also, all of my 3 Pome plants are young n small now and in pot, should I place them n full sun or part shade for better growth?

Good score Db. $9 is darn cheap, considering it has a PBR on it. Good that Daley's have them now, as I only know one other place up here that had them a little while ago. Generally they like the full sun.

BJ, I just checked mine again and looks like I got seedling Ben Hur, so not sure how true to type it will tun out ( so I'll grow it in pot), it does not have any proper lable but just hand written tag of Ben Hur pom. It has got much bigger leaves than my other 2 varieties bought from Daleys (both cutting grown)

Incase u r interested in buying it - I got it from Rockley Brisbane market

I picked up a "Ben Hur" Pomegranate Tree in 90mm pot via eBay. for $15 I also purchased 4 other tube stock sized fruit trees ($5 each) from them as they combine postage for the lot. The eBay shop is called Fruit tree lane. http://myworld.ebay.com.au/fruittreelane/?_trksid=p4340.l2559

Interesting. It it is pbr it sounds like the grower at the market at least is breaking those conditions. Any plant with pbr on the label can't be propagated to sell on. And to legally sell it it must have a proper pbr label on it.
They could get into a bit of trouble for that.
