Pomelo Fruit Problems

    3 responses

I seem to have an ongoing problem which first come to my attention in March 2011 and has been happening each year since including again this year. The 2 fruit trees were purchased from Bunnings and initially we enjoyed nice fruit, however now the pith is very very thick and the fruit itself is very small, dry, and almost tasteless. I initially thought it may have been lack of water, but I took particular notice this year, once the trees started to flower I ensured the drippers were delivering plenty of water, I have a Valencia Orange, and an Imperial Mandarin, in my Orchard but I am not having trouble with these fruit.

From what I read here:

I believe that is an indication of too much nitrogen or phosphorous deficiency. An application of bone meal or rock minerals rich in phosphorous is the recommendation for this problem.

That's interesting MaryT, as the 'guru' up here always says it's a lack of potassium (K) that causes thick rind?
Wonder who's right? :-)

Always good to hear another opinion, Brendan. It's possible that the problem is complex. Touch wood I do not have this particular problem with my citrus. :)
