red bird of paradise/barbados fence

    2 responses

I have some red bird of paradise seedling which I am about to plant. This plant is also known as "Barbados pride" and "bardados fence" or "dwarf poinciana"

Evidently Barbodians form a hedge out of the plant to act as a fence. I am told they grow up to 10 feet tall with a 10 foot spread.

Anybody know anything about them, how far apart should they be planted to create a fence/hedge
Cheers

I nearly lost a dog many years ago when she chewed on a branch which had fallen off next door's tree/shrub.

They are very pretty, but deadly poison - to animals anyway.

Thanks for that Julie, I bought the seeds from a laboratory in Florida, evidently they grow all types of plants which they use for medicines.

I thought I was going to lose my dog a couple of weeks ago, pupils were dilated and she was really sleepy. Took her to the local vet who did a drug test, she had eaten some cannibis, we don't think she smoked it. Vet said it was common in the area, i live not far from Byron Bay.
Cheers
