I'll be needing a sprayer and am hoping to find something that'll actually last. Would anyone recommend anything and/or have an opinion on http://www.rockaroundtheblock.com.au/product.asp?pID=758&cID=140 ? Thanks

Yes Brad, as Kert says, Rega is very good, my 30 year old Rega is still going strong:-)
Other very good sprayers are: Croplands Swissmex, HoZelock, Solo and Hills.
Out of all them, I like the HoZelock! Goes higher IMO, and spare parts are easy to get.

I always use hardi sparyers, you can get parts 20 years down the track.

thanks. keep em coming if anyone has other tips. the big hardware store seemed to be selling stuff you'd be lucky to get 3 years off (their hills and hozelock model included)

no picture on the rega, but I'm amused at "Contrary to some opinions, Rega is not in fact dead, but still kicking on at Garrards!"

I just use the $20 back pack from Bunnings - it's 5yrs old now - but I do do the maintenance on it - which may be why it's lasted so well. Fishing rod grease, and "O" ring kit - and clean out the filters etc. Mine has been thrashed over the 30 acres (on the fountain grass)

Comfy shoulder straps would be good though :-(

Are u looking at manual pump-action or fuel injected types (ie: battery) Brad?

How high do you need to go? You could always get a tube/piece made up with the threads to reach up high.

I just cut the top off a plastic soft drink bottle to make a "cone" ..very technical stuff.. ;-)

PS - I should mention mine is about 16L as I usually need large volumes of stuff and refilling is annoying - but it's also very heavy at this size.

Brad, there's about 3 different models of Hozelock sprayers (I think), mine is the 'el-cheapo' model, over 15 years old, and I can't fault it. Made in England too.
I can still buy spare parts for it at the local hardware store (not bunnies).
If he doesn't have the parts, he orders them in :-)

My Croplands Swissmex (7 litre) is an excellent sprayer (made in Mexico), but I need to change the nozzle. Think it was ~$95 from Mackay Rural Supplies (CRT). They also stock all the spare parts :-)

The local ag spray store stocked hardi and croplands swissmex, and basically recommended the latter, so thats what I've now got. Same price as Brendan it turns out - cheaper than the Hardi, but the sales guy main reason was less moving parts, o-rings etc that can fail compared to the hardi.

Last weekend I noticed Mitre 10 stocked a couple other brands, including Stanley that were quite cheap if anyone is still looking - seemed good for the price. I think I recall a 5L, 7 or 8L and a backpack. Check one out here

Brad, I noticed my Croplands sprayer was not working properly, pulled it apart and there were hornets nests (mud/dirt) inside. The buggers got in through those two 'breather' holes at the top! Maybe they don't have hornets in Mexico?

Anyway, I'm planning to glue some mesh over those two holes, that should fix it. Just letting you know :-)

Very interesting discussion! I search a sturdy sprayer which lasts forever for homemade liquid plant manures and to water seedlings. Which of the above mentioned would you recommend? With a hand pump.

Hello r/strumpf,
I bought mine from CRT, also called Mackay Rural Supplies. Don't think bunnies have them.

They come in 5L & 7L sizes.

Got some junk mail from Rapid Spray the other day, now these do look good, not cheap tho. www.rapidspray.net

They make an 'industrial' sprayer that can handle diesel, acids, degreasers etc :-)

I feel it's important to have a filter on the intake side to prevent the nozzle from being blocked continually ;further the filter needs to be of adequate size so it ,too, does not need to be unbocked all the time . Most sprayers don't meet these requirements . My choice is the Yate's for about $30. Nonetheless, to be able to spray ,say, 5 metres to the tops of trees you really need a Rega sprayer ,pump action .
