oleh starts with ... I have a 2 stella cherry trees. One is about 6 years old. In the 3rd year we had about 30 cherry's then it doubled for the next two years however we started to get a lot of small sour cherries on one side. Does anyone know how to correct this. Also this year towards the end of summer we had some die back on two branches which also had small globules of sap. Anyone know why. Admittedly the tree has been fertilized and I could have watered more | About the Author oleh South Australia 2nd April 2010 10:10am #UserID: 3550 Posts: 2 View All oleh's Edible Fruit Trees |

Phil@Tyalgum says... Bacterial canker or gummosis is extremely common in cherries and apricots, where you will see sap exuding from along the branches. You will need to cut off the branch below the infection to help to control the disease. Copper sprays can also help if sprayed regularly, especially spring/summer when it is most active.

Jason says... We have some very successful cherry trees that have been making large crops for about 10 years, they haven't even been fertilized since they started cropping and that's in soil that isn't fertile enough for hardly anything else apart from apples. We did loose about 3 trees that were planted in another wetter location that almost gets standing water in winter. But the trees up higher have been great. So just make sure they aren't somewhere soggy and you should be fine. I have also tried planting one in a dry spot and that didn't grow :) (just right is good) | About the Author Jason10 Portland, Vic 7th July 2010 3:30pm #UserID: 3853 Posts: 218 View All Jason10's Edible Fruit Trees |
