It was around some years ago, maybe try rare fruit societies to see if anyone is still growing it. Its an interesting one, but different to kaki and virginiana fruit. It seems closer to many of our wild Australian Diospyros.

Yes, we have Diospyros texanas here in Melbourne, growing poorly for the past 5 years. Think you will need much patience to grow them and even longer for fruiting which are about the size of a small berry. Do you have any suggestions or special technique to make them grow? Cheers!

Are they deciduous, I didnt think so. If thats the case they are closer to the subtropical Diospyros species. They might like a longer growing season, ie in a hothouse. Not sure if they can de grafted onto rootstocks.

Hey Bud, my Texas plants will be quite a few years before they start fruiting as they are still very small. They are only about 30 cm high so the branches are too tiny to take any cuttings yet. They have been really slow to get established but are kicking off now and putting out new growth. So I might be able to send you some cuttings towards the end of the year. Don't forget they are dioecious so you will need to grow a few of them. Cheers!
