Wampee tree leaves and possums (forum)

I live in north Sydney and I'm considering a wampee tree. Wondering if possums like eating the leaves or not?
My citrus, stonefruit and ghost chillies have had their leaves stripped bare by possums several times and I have used physical barriers to protect them. They stripped bare the loquat and panama berry but have not returned since their first attack. The leaves on the lychee, jaboticaba, persimmon etc. have not been touched. I can protect the fruit but not the whole tree if I get a wampee.

Get a possum trap and export possum . They are in abundance and are pretty dumb about traps.

Thanks, but I need to know if possums attack Wampee Tree leaves specifically. Does anyone know? It will determine where in the garden I put the tree, if at all.

That's great news. Markmelb, have possums attacked the leaves of other trees in your garden? I'd like to know how desperate your possums are for food. We have both ringtails and brushtails. Unexpectedly the ringtails have started stripping the fresh growth on our murrayas.

GG I'm in Neutral Bay and no, the possums don't eat the wampee; I had a tree that grew to a massive size and it was not eaten. Yes, we have ringtails and bushtails; the ringtails would strip new growth off any tree - citrus and camellias are their favourites here.

Good luck with it GG . They do fruit in Sydney; some one I know had a tree in Concord that bore good fruit. However I suggest you get a grafted variety if you are patient for fruit.
